How to Set Up Google Workspace Email Using POP and IMAP in Outlook or Thunderbird
Setting up your Google Workspace email in Outlook or Thunderbird using POP or IMAP allows you to manage your emails efficiently across devices. Here's a step-by-step guide to configure your email with the correct settings and ports.
Step 1: Enable POP/IMAP in Google Workspace
- Log in to your Google Workspace email account.
- Go to Settings (gear icon in the top right corner).
- Select See all settings.
- Click on the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
- Under POP Download, select "Enable POP for all mail" or "Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on."
- Under IMAP Access, select "Enable IMAP."
- Click Save Changes.
Step 2: Configure POP/IMAP in Outlook or Thunderbird
Outlook

Open Outlook and go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings.

Click on New to add a new email account.

Choose Manual setup or additional server types and click Next.

Select POP or IMAP and click Next.

Fill in the following information:
- Your Name: Your full name.
- Email Address: Your Google Workspace email.
- Account Type: Choose IMAP or POP3.
- Incoming mail server (IMAP):
imap.gmail.com
- Incoming mail server (POP3):
pop.gmail.com
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP):
smtp.gmail.com

Enter your Username (full email address) and Password.

Click More Settings > Outgoing Server and check "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication."

Under Advanced, set the following ports:
- POP: Port 995 (with SSL).
- IMAP: Port 993 (with SSL).
- SMTP: Port 465 or 587 (with SSL/TLS).

Click OK and finish the setup.
Thunderbird
- Open Thunderbird and go to Tools > Account Settings.
- Click Account Actions > Add Mail Account.
- Fill in your name, email, and password, then click Continue.
- Thunderbird will attempt to configure the settings automatically. Verify and adjust the following if necessary:
- Incoming: IMAP (imap.gmail.com, Port 993 with SSL) or POP (pop.gmail.com, Port 995 with SSL).
- Outgoing: SMTP (smtp.gmail.com, Port 465 or 587 with SSL/TLS).
- Click Done to complete the setup.
